Abstarct: In recent years, power distribution corporations have set up covered overhead distribution lines, including aerial bundled cables, to reduce dissatisfaction of customers due to unwanted outages and to increase the reliability of distribution networks. The growing trend in the use of aerial bundled cables in power distribution lines has sometimes been without technical studies and without considering the economic efficiency of distribution corporations. Therefore, the main topic of the present study have been set to select the type of conductor in low-voltages lines construction projects with economic considerations and in order to optimize distribution corporation costs. To achieve this goal, first the network costs including the costs of construction and operation of each type of wire lines and aerial bundled cables are calculated and then using the normal distribution model, the mean life of each network is estimated before the first failure. Finally, additional information on network failures is provided to aid the comparison process. According to the results of the calculations it was found that in many cases the use of aerial bundled cables has no economic justification. In fact, the issue of conductor selection was not a general one and it requires case and regional studies.
