Abstarct: Having flexibility in the structure of the axial flux machines is the main reason for those machines to be eligible for some specific applications responding to hard achievement requirements. For example in the recent years, axial-flux machines particularly new topologies are becoming prime movers of many electric vehicle propulsion systems. Regarding the specific features of the axial flux machines being disk-type with adjustable air gap, higher power to weight density, greater diameter to length ratio, compact construction and excellent efficiency are expressed by some researchers. In fact some low speed axial flux machines have been designed and manufactured before the radial flux machines but they were forgotten shortly due to many manufacturing difficulties particularly those related to ferromagnetic stator core assembling. By the way removing the stator core can solved the problem associated with stator core loss and manufacturing difficult which is regarded by the present thesis. This thesis investigates a method for mechanical and electromagnetic designing and manufacturing of a miniature ironless stator machine. It is shown how the components of a coreless machine can be designed pretty and then assembled beautifully. After then a sample three-phase axial flux squirrel cage induction motor with coreless stator is designed and manufactured in our laboratory and its excellent modelling technique is validated with comparing the simulation results with those measured experimentally. Results specify that axial flux induction motor with coreless stator compared to other AFIM will have low weight and final cost, high power factor and good ventilation.
