Abstarct: Scour is the major factors of threatening the stability of the bridge abutment which constructed on rivers. To avoid possible destruction and irreparable damages, it is necessary to accurately assess the scour process and using appropriate methods to control scour phenomena. Bridge abutments change the flood flow patterns and direct it towards the center of the river. In many cases it causes destruction of bridge and made abundant financial and physical damages. In this research, the experimental study performed to evaluate the scour of bridge abutment on the floodplain. For this purpose, a T-shaped breakwater structures with different dimensions and a certain distance (with respect to the geometry of the flow characteristics on the river) were used. The effectiveness of the parameters such as wing length, web length and the breakwater distance were examined on the scour around abutments. For carried out of study flume with dimension of 12m length, 1 m width, and 0.60m height, were used. Experiments were done with five discharge 18, 20 and 22 lit/s, one uniform sediment with median diameter of 1mm. The results of this study showed that using T-shaped breakwater structures on the upstream of bridge abutment reduced the scour 3% to 90.5%. Also, baxsed on statistical analysis using SPSS software, a regression relations was presented for estimating scour around abutments and the breakwater structure. Also, in order to present the regression relations to estimate scour around the bridge abutment and T-Shape breakwater, dimensional analysis were performed on hydraulic parameters(discharge, velocity, depth of flow), geometric parameters (abutment length, web length, and the breakwater distance), geometric parameters of canal (width and depth of main flume), and also sediment characteristics of bed material were examined.
