QE55 : Site selection and evalution environmental effects of a reference hazardous landfill site in centeral Iran

Abstarct: Nowadays, population growth, decreasing trend in fossil fuels resources, as well as increasing of greenhouse gases lead to the increase in the other energy usage. Iran is not an exception and in the recent years it has been tried to use from these energies. One effect of these energies is production of hazardous waste that should be properly managed. Site selection for disposing this hazardous waste is very sensitive because of its adverse environmental impacts. The mechanism to control these wastes should be to reuse them in developing the environmental, economical and social benefits. The purpose of this study is to identify the suitable region with minimal adverse environmental impacts for disposing the hazardous waste in a region with 10000 km2 squares around Anarak City in the central of Iran. Geographic information system (GIS) and different data laxyers have been to used for obtain this purpose. The different data laxyers include composed of future landuse, vegetation cover, geomorphology, slope, lithology, soil texture, geological strictures, distance from cities, major & minor roads, population areas (cities, villages, military baxses, train stations and, ...), tectonic activities (faults), water supply sources (wells, springs and canals),and drainage pathways. These laxyers have been prepared by using available data, maps and satellite images. Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) method, Simple Additive Weight (SAW), pair-wise comparison matrix and subtractive-arithmetic (arithmetic average) formula were used to determine the parameter scores and combining the data laxyers and dividing the area into different zone. In dividing the area into five zones including thirteen very suitable areas were selected. Through field revision of this thirteen area, four suitable area selected finally. These four area assessed for identifying the adverse environmental impact and determination of the most appropriate site for disposing the hazardous wastes. For this, in first the “similar to the ideal option method”, and next, the “Leopold matrix method” were used and these four area were compared with each other. Finally, site number 7, located in the west study zone was selected best area، baxsed on the greatest distance to the population centers,sutable litology and lake of vegetation cover and finally with minimal environmental impacts.
