QE313 : Deformation Analysis in Cenozoic Formations of Gotvand Region (KhuzestanProvince)

Abstarct: The study area is a part of Dezful embayment in the Zagros Fold belt and is situated between two cities: Gotvand and lali. In the research deformation of rock units outcrops, consist of folding and faulting with a especial view to neotectonic deformation, has been investigated. Pir Ahmad fault with northwest-southeast strike is one of the most important fault in this region and its neotectonic activity is traceable in Neogene Formation and Quaternary deposits. baxsed on the field evidences, neotectonic movements of these fault can be observe as folding and faulting in Miosen Formation and younger rock units, the diversion of the river, rough topography of the area of the fault plain, v-shaped valleys and scarp fault. Stratigraphic investigations in the area show occurrence Cenozoic Formation. Revers movement of Pir-Ahmad fault has caused folding of neogence Formation and uplift of Gachsaran Formation with respect of Quaternary sediments. The studying of fold geometry in this area baxsed on existing geological maps, satellite image, and field geology demonstrate the genetral trend of folding is northwest-southeast to east-west. The change in trend of axis folds from northwest-southeast to east-west is due to the pir¬ahmad faults function in the section. Studied folds, baxsed on interlimb angle (Fluty, 1964 ), are folds open. Also baxsed on the dip of axial plain and plunge of hinge line, these fold are in three categories of Upright-gently plunging, Upright-sub horizontal plunging and Moderately inclined- gently plunging. To study the major joints in the region and to determine the corelation with other structures, the properties of joints have been used rose diagram and contour diagrams have been drawn, and found that the pattern of joints region can be classifiy in 4 main fracture groups. Joins tensile j1 and j4 vertically and parallel to the fold, and j2 and j3 were consider conjugate.
