QE28 : Rockfall Hazard Zonation in Shahrood City

Abstarct: Rock falls are the usual forms of slope instability in hill slopes. The high velocity and suddenly occurrence are the main difference of rock fall and other instability. Therefore the rock falls are among the most destructive mass movements and results to high lost of lives and heavy damage to the structures, roads, residential area, farms…. Because of the vast distributions and the high hazard level of rock fall, in recent decades, different studies and researches are performed on this phenomenon. The study of rock fall in Iran is in the beginning state but have an increasing trend. By consideration of massive mountain area and high destructive history of rock fall in Iran, the more study is necessary. In this research, rock fall in rocky slopes of Tepal mountain in northwest of Shahrood city are investigated. The occurrence of rock fall and also the forms of block are controlled by different parameters of local climate, lithology, structures (includes of faults, main joints) and etc. In this study, for the precise geology study of area, the large scale geological map of 1:10000 is produced and joint study in 12 sections are performed. Then, the slope instability is analyzed by two methods of stereographic (using Dips 5.103 software) and numerical method (by Swedge 4.078 and rock fall 4.039 software's). The results of these methods that the all of slopes are stable in static conditions and became instable in dynamic state. In critical states of huge raining and earthquake intense instability will be occurred and the big problems could be creating for the down area of slopes. baxsed on the results of numerical analysis and using the Arc GIS 9.3 rock fall hazard zonation map of are produced. Also by overlaying of landslide hazard map and land use map the area affected by rock falls are distinguished. The results of this study show that Salamaty road, Mazar Shohaday Gomnam and its access road, some part of Azadi Park, Tourism hotel, some of the residential area down of the Salamaty road and some parts of Abshar Park, are located in the hazard zones. In the last section of this study, for decreasing of hazard and risk of rock fall some methods are proposed.
