Abstarct: In this project, ZnO and Au-ZnO nano-structures with various morphologies such as spindle, star, flower and multipod- like were successfully prepared via a simple solution route using oligoaniline-coated gold nano-particle precursors. The obtained nano-structures were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and energy dispersive x-ray microanalysis (EDX). Photo-catalytic of the prepared Au-ZnO powders with different morphologies were evaluated by degradation of methyl orange in an aqueous solution exposed to ultraviolet light. An improvement in photo-catalytic degradation of methyl orange were observed for Au-ZnO in comparison with pure ZnO for all studied morphologies. In addition, the results obtained suggested a close relationship between the photo-catalytic activity and the particle morphology. According to the results, Au-ZnO with multipod morphology showed better photo-catalytic activity in comparison with the other morphologies.
