Abstarct: The reaction of 4-methoxy¬benzoic acid with thionyl chloride lead to the formation of 4-methoxy¬benzoyl chloride. This compound was converted to 4-methoxy-benzoyl azide upon treatment with sodum azide. The resulting 4-methoxy¬benzoyl azide was heated in dry toluene to give 4-methoxy¬phenyl isocyanate insitu, which was then reacted with ethyl¬carbazate to give 1-ethoxy¬carbonyl-4-(4-methoxy¬phenyl) semicarbazide. The reaction of this compound with potassium hydroxide (4 molar) gave 4-(4-methoxy¬phenyl)-1,2,4-triazolidine-3,5-dione. The structure of which was confirmed using melting point and infrared data. Four aliphatic and aromatic diamines, 1,2-diaminoethane, 1,3-diaminopropane, 1,6-diaminohexane, 1,4-diaminobenzen were selected react with two moles of adipoyl-chloride and terephetaloyl¬chloride in dimethylacetamide (DMAc). The resulting diacid chlorides without separation were reacted with one mol 4-(4-methoxy¬phenyl) urazole in the presence of triethylamine as a scavenger, to produce novel related copolyamides with inherent viscosities in a range of 0.1 – 0.35 dLg-1. The structure of these copolyamides were confirmed using infrared spectroscopy, viscometry and thermal analysis (TGA- DTG).
