QD228 : Kinetic-Spectrophotometric determination of piroxicam baxsed on its inhibitory effect on periodate-methyl red reaction

Abstarct: A rapid, simple, sensitive, kinetic-spectrophotometric method has been developed for the determination of Piroxicam (PX) in pharmaceutical formulations. The method is baxsed on the inhibition effect of PX on the reaction of sodium periodate-potassium bromide-methyl red (MR) in acidic media. The decolorization of methyl red by the reaction products was used to monitor the reaction spectrophotometrically at 518 nm. The proposed method provids a linear dynamic range of 0.20-3.0 µM, a limit of detection (LOD) of 0.077 μM and a relative standard deviation (RSD) for five replicate determinations of 0.40, 0.80, and 3.0 μM piroxicam are 5.0%, 5.0%, and 3.0%, respectively.
