PE47 : Burnout Among EFL Teachers During the Covid-19pandemic: A Qualitative Study

Abstarct: Abstract Given the situation with Corona Pandemic disease and considering teachers as the most basic and main members of the educational system in Iran, this study intended to investigate burnout among the teachers practicing during this unprecedented situation. Accordingly, this study was guided by three research questions: (1) How do EFL teachers describe burnout? (2) what are the factors that cause teachers to suffer from burnout? A (3) what are the consequences of experiencing burnout for teachers? A qualitative design was adopted for answering these questions and constructive grounded theory was used as the basis of the data collection and analysis procedure. Totally, 10 EFL teachers in English institutes in Iran were interviewed in three rounds. The interviews were transcribed, coded the data, and grouped into emerging codes until data saturation. The results of the study showed that five causes contributed to job burnout consists of lack of teaching authority, work and personal life imbalance, disorganized working environment, lack of healthy and standard classroom environment, and Lack of a growing working environment. Moreover, the burnout consequences included physiological, psychological, psychosocial, and workplace problems.
