Abstarct: Nowadays, researches show that designers and programmers focus more on educational spaces and interiors and classrooms. But in recent decades, with the changes in education, the need to pay attention to open spaces and create social spaces on campus for social interactions that bring vitality and excitement to students is seen as essential. However, the conditions of thermal comfort and thermal sensation of users in outdoor environments in educational settings have not been explored. Consequently, in this study, first, using library studies, the concepts that influence thermal comfort are presented. Then a field study is done to evaluate the thermal comfort conditions in the central courtyard of academic environments at the Shahroud University of Technology. As outdoor thermal conditions were evaluated baxsed on the measurement of important climatic parameters, simultaneous thermal perception of individuals was assessed using a questionnaire. At the end, using the simulation in ENVI-met software, the best orientation in the central courtyard in summer is investigated. Finally, the results of field studies showed that the two parameters of mean radiant temperature and wind speed are the most important factors affecting the thermal comfort of the courtyard. Also, the students' preferred temperature was 21.5 ° C. In addition, the results of the simulations showed that the zero degree angle could be the desired angle in the central courtyard.
