GV44 : The role of work ethic and occupational commitment in Employees’ performance of the sport and youth offices in Khorasan Razavi

Abstarct: The purpose of this study was to investigate the role of work ethic and occupational commitment on employees’ performance of the sport and youth offices in Khorasan Razaviprovince. The research method was descxriptive-correlation. The statistical population of the study consisted of all employees of the offices sport and youth in Khorasan Razavi province in which 177 people were selected as the statistical sample baxsed on Krejcie and Morgan (1970) sample size determination table. Thus, 177 people completed individual characteristics, Meriac et al (2013) work ethic, Allen and Meyer (1994) occupational commitment and Abramis (1994) performance self-assessment questionnaires. The Face and content validity of questionnaires was confirmed by professors of sport management and their reliability determined by Cronbach’s alpha coefficient of 0.88, 0.74 and 0.92 respectively. The research hypotheses were analyzed using Pearson correlation coefficient and regression analysis at a significance level of 0.05, and Friedman test was used to determine the priority of components of variables. The results showed that there was a significant and positive relationship between work ethic and occupational commitment with employees’ performance of sport and youth organization of Khorasan Razavi province. Moreover, there is a significant positive relationship between all components of work ethic and staff performance andthere is a significant relationship between all componentsof occupational commitment and staff performance which the affective and normative commitments has a direct relationship with staff performance while the continuance component has a reverse relationship with staff performance. There are significant differences between the priorities of work ethic so that ethic, wasted time, self-reliance, hard work, ethics and delay of gratification and leisure are the first to seventh priorities, respectively. There are also significant differences between the components of occupational commitment which affective commitment, normative commitment and continuance commitment are the first to third priorities, respectively. These results emphasize the necessity of the work ethic and occupational commitment in various aspects of knowledge programs and organizational learning to increase performance and active participation of employees in the organizational affairs and personal responsibility.
