GV11 : Effects of regular walking on Constipation in adult’s patients complaining of chronic constipation.

Zamani: Physical education student of Shahrood University of Technology Background and Objective: It is not well known whether physical activity (PA) is useful in the management of patients complaining of constipation. The aim of this study was to test the influence of regular Walking on constipation of young adult’s inactive patients suffering from chronic idiopathic constipation. Matrrial and Methods: Thirty one volunteer subjects with 20.32±1.32years were randomly divided into 2 group : control(n = 11 )and Exprimental group (n = 20). Control group subjects maintained their normal lifestyle during 8 weeks and exprimental group performed a 8-week physical activity program after randomization. Physical activity comprised 60 min of walking with 60%HR. Both groups received dietary advice. Constipation was measured by Mc Millan and Williams questionnaire . Results: T–pair test showed the significant difference in constipation between after and before of walking in experimental group (p =0/000); and compring mean of control & experimental group at post test showed the significant difference between them(p =0/000) in constipation. Conclusions: In adults inactive subjects with symptoms of chronic constipation, it is advisable to promote regular physical activity since it improves the defecation pattern.
