Abstarct: This study, tixtled as “Technical and Economic Evaluation ofLED Luminaries in Underground Mining”, establishes the necessary data for new ways of lighting system planning in underground mining. The study concentrates on LEDs as they are presumed to be the newest and most useful technology in mining lighting. To evaluate this technology, the research process is designed in a way to collect lighting levels, compare it to the required level in the mining industry and examine and compare the results of the technical and economic evaluation of usingLED luminaires in a sample mine case, “Chromite Mine of Bandarabbas” in Iran. The case study has provided more accurate results and is required for some evaluations which are associated to surrounding space of lighting system. In the study, three grades ofLED projectors have been produced for tests and experiments. The evaluation process consists of two phases, one technical and one economic. Technical comparison among different grades of produced projectors is performed by both measuring the light level practically during 14 months and using DIALux software. Economic analysis is done by NPV & NFV calculations using prices and economic data. Final results show thatLED projectors can provide lighting levels that meet the standard needs of the mine and use of these projectors will be also more economic regarding the choose of right quality and Watt of LEDs.
