Abstarct: Abstract Heap leaching is one of the most efficient hydromextallurgical methods for low oxide sources. In this method, always, the recovery rate is lower than the ideal level due to low comminution and lack of proper liberation. On the other hand, the present research was focused on Sarigoni gold mine, which its reserve is divided into two parts, oxide and sulfide, and its extraction is currently being done in a border part including sulfide and oxide with gold recovery rate is about 40%. Thus, it is necessary to improve the recovery rate by recognizing and improving the parameters affecting the leaching process in the batch scale and then implementing it in the industrial scale. For achieving these goals, the present study was conducted in three phases. In first, the effective range of parameters was specified using the classical method of one factor at a time in the rolling bottle leach tests. Then, in the second step, the optimal range of parameters was determined using the response surface methodology and Box-Behnken design. Finally, after permeability experiments, column tests were designed and performed. The findings indicated that the value of gold recovery upgraded to 42.26 % by increasing the pH from 10.5 to 12 and reducing the cyanide concentration from 0.5 to 0.4 g/L at the size rage of 20 mm. The results of the process optimization using the response surface methodology demonstrated that the value of recovery increased about 2.37% with the current dimensional range by modifying the pH at 11.7, and cyanide concentration at 0.44 g/L. Also, with the reduction of dimensions to 15 and 10 mm, the recovery rate reached 51.6% and 57.92%, respectively. In addition, the results of the column tests confirmed that we see a good recovery within 20 days from the start of spraying the solution, but thereafter the output solution contains very little gold, which requires the economic studies to decide whether to continue or stop the process.
