Abstarct: Regardless of the environment and geographical context in which human beings have been brought up and lived, they have a set of constant and permanent needs and requirements, the most crucial of which is to establish relationships and social interactions with others. Small-scale open spaces, as places that have a close and intimate connection with people and citizens, will be able to establish the foundation of these interactions and social contacts between them. This study has been conducted by the aim of obtaining the components and physical criteria of vivacious and lively and human open spaces and the extent of their use and role of enhancing social interactions between people in Shahrood as a case study. Therefore, first of all, library resources were used to identify and classify the views and opinions of experts about the principles and physical criteria for the construction of human open spaces. Then, by active observation and gathering of images of spaces, the sociability of small open spaces in the samples was determined. Finally, by explaining and describing the factors affecting the creation of social interactions in such settings, the role of physical factors and their function was evaluated. The results of this study focus on the components such as confinement, human scale and proportions, clarity and readability, as well as flexibility and use of stimulant and interpretable forms in the physical structure of small-scale open spaces of Shahrood and creating acceptability and people involvements. Other results of this study include high correlation and overlap between the characteristics and principles used in small-scale open spaces of Shahrood and case studies gathered from around the world. This indicates the trans-regional nature of these principles and criteria and their role in an appropriate level, which is regardless of any territorial or cultural affiliations and dependencies
